Gerry, where are you gardening?  If south of me, you can prob. divide
in fall, tho' I find early spring - just as growth commences - to be
the ideal time.  Wouldn't do it now, with the heat of summer upon us
unless you are really far north of me.  Problem with fall, IMO, is
that these are plants that can get winter heaved if they don't make
enough root growth before it freezes - best to wait until spring, in
my book...others may have different experiences.

Yes, bury the necks when you split them up.  I usually replant
divisions so the leaf rosette is just above soil line with all else
below it.
