Nick,
I have most of my columbine in partial shade. They get direct sun for
an hour or two (most of them). My soil is quite organic (hauled in by the
wheelbarrow) and at least an inch of water weekly.
I have a wildling from the woods that started last year and has seeded
a little. It gets sun most of the day. Other than that, I don't do much.
I also leave seed heads on for three reasons. leave them for the birds, to
reseed, and laziness.
