I haven't tested my soil. I do know that it is old swamp bottom
and overlooked by the neighbors' avocado and redwood trees, which
makes me think I have slightly acid soil. But the swamp bottom
is watered by underground streams that pass through, among other
things, limestone.
the other things that do thrive are borage, violets, nigella,
feverfew, and oxalis. The climate is extremely mild: no real
killing frost most years and no really hot heat most years (two
days ago being a remarkable exception). Dry summers, moist
winters, some high fog in the mornings and afternoons, especially
in the summer.
do gophers like columbine?
