Off topic - houseplant mystery

Hi all,
    We have a plant to ID.  A friend at work received this plant and wants to know what it is and how to get it to bloom.  Most of my houseplants are in storage and we don't have a working scanner, so I'll do the best with the description.

   It is a vining plant.  The leaves are opposite, small (at least the sample) and shaped and colored like an azalea leaf. The leaves are smooth, not hairy.   New leaves have a purple color which fades as the leaf matures.  The flower I haven't much clue.  He says it is red? and sort of like a rose?  His memory wasn't good here.  I know it isn't much to go on, but we thought we would try.
