KAREN -
I agree that Epimediums are excellent ground covers in shade; they like
moist soil. Bloom is in early spring.
Pulmonaria varieties are also excellent in shade, but they seem to like
the soil to be a little more moist than the Epimediums. I have quite a few
varieties and I like them all. My impression is that British Sterling,
Excalibur, and Spilled Milk are all quite similar, but my British Sterling
and Spilled Milk are both doing better than my Excalibur. Janet Fisk is
also quite nice. Then again, there are some with pink flowers. And Little
Star has flowers that are an outstanding blue. The long thin leaves of
Bertram Anderson are quite interesting, too, and provide some variety.
Nonetheless, I do not consider myself to be a Pulmonaria "collector".
