i've used the japanese painted ferns for years in my gardens.
here's a new concept for you, maybe
range of height 12-18"
lol
not being a smarty, just recognizing the inherent variation in the plant and
the amazing variety of locales represented by this body of reader/writers.
there is also variation in coloring from the same factors.
go figure.

just to cause trouble, one of my faves is the korean rock fern.
i have made it a cross cultural issue by planting with california rocks.
