Re: [SG] Cimicifugas
Actually there are two little known and somewhat rare species from the
Pacific Northwest, C. elata, and an even rarer one called C. laciniata,
with more divided foliage. C elata is starting to bloom about now in the
lower elevations near my house. They like shaded, wooded areas under
douglas firs, in loose moist duff, frequently growing on slight slopes
where they get good drainage, but cool somewhat moist roots. There are also
some Asian species. Cimicifuga heracleifolia and C. foetidus are two that I
can think of right now, basically all in the same growing condition, and
all quite beautiful. We saw C. foetidus blooming in China lst fall, over 7'
tall, gorgeous.
