[SG] Amaryllis

Hi Kathleen,

I always put them out for the summer, but have never left them out all
winter. Last winter was incredibly mild, so I'm not surprised that the
bulb survived. A friend of mine left her rosemary in the ground last fall,
and it overwintered; it is GORGEOUS now, while mine, wintered indoors, is
still trying to recover. I'm so jealous! We know that rosemary is too
tender to survive a normal winter in zone 6. Even the "hardy" rosemary,
'Arp' (good doggie?), is not reliably hardy here. But as was pointed out
in regard to other plants recently, knowledge about hardiness seems to
have a ways to go. Are you going to leave your amaryllis out this winter?
If you do, please let us know the results.
