Here in Ontario in the last month a child was killed by the neighbours dog
with whom it had played regularly before. And two other youngsters have
been badly scarred by other dogs in this same month.
I perhaps overreacted to the fact that you were praising a dog for killing
and then going to church. Being a pacifist it seems rather contradictory to
my mind. Killing for our own food is one thing, but this seemed to be
killing for fun and because the rabbit was in the wrong place at the wrong
time. Have you ever considered live trapping and releasing?
We have a neighbour who is very allergic to cat urine and she live-traps
any cats that trespass into her garden. I'm sure that she could get a dog
that would kill any cats that come onto her property, but she has chosen
less violent and less premanent method of disposing of God's creatures.
I'm sorry to have directed the note to the list, but I think it's important
that we address the issues of disposing of annoying garden pests in the
most humane way possible and letting the dog kill the rabbit is at the
bottom of my list of animal husbandry.
I'm sure that there are likely a great many other things upon which we
could agree and I look forward to doing so in the future.
