Re: [SG] Plant reverting

Hi Barbara,
perhaps someone else can give you the technical aspects of this one
besides myself. I have grown both of the plants you hare having trouble
with. I have had the polygonatum for years and never experienced anything
like it going back to all green. Did you have it in the garden and see it
as a variegated plant? Then next year it was all green?
I do know you have to watch the Brunnera. When you see a plain green leaf
emerge simply cut it out. Do not allow them to take over the host plant and
squeeze out the variegated part. Not a big thing and thus far I have not
had to do that one in my garden. Just know to watch for the change.

I hope someone can answer this question for me! Why do plants revert and
is there something a person can do to prevent this? In the past I have
bought "Polygonatum Ododratum "variegatum"", which was variegated but the
following year turned all green. I also just got a variegated Brunnera and
was told by a nurseryman that he had stopped selling it because too many
people complained it also reverted. Does this mean it will also happen to
mine? Does it have to do with the amount of sun/shade they receive, if so
what would be the ideal light conditions for these plants? Thanks!
Barbara
