opinion that this system hampers the practice of horticulture (not botany). A
good reference that is up-to-date will have names I have not learned. If a
section of synonyms is not part of the reference I cannot find the plant.

Claire,
I am astounded! Just tonight on the open-hosta listserve we were discussing H.
'Citation'.
Now that one used to sell at a hefty price. Surely your decision on buying it
would be influenced by its provenance, no? It is a derivative of a highly
unstable hosta, 'Flamboyant'. If you knew that perhaps you would not shell out
(then) $100 for it.
We must speak in a common language or we will be lost without that compass. Go
tomorrow and buy Hostas 'Antioch', 'Silver Crown', 'Spinners', and 'Moreheim'.
Perhaps then you will see my point.

P.S. I really think you are all a little bit upset that I knew that there was
no C. ramosa.
