I want to recommend H. Francee for an inexpensive and simply beautiful
beginners' hosta.  It is deep green with cream edges and if it won't grow,
nothing will!   Another one I love is H. Fragrant Bouquet.   Click on this
address to see a picture of it. The color is not quite true, however....it
is a much lighter green to near yellow, actually:
