When I first started gardening I was obsessive about knowing the complete
name of every plant I purchased.....at 1st it was relatively easy, I wrote
them in a spiral note book, oh how organized I was. Then I would sit in the
evenings and look each plant up in my books and take notes. Well the more I
got into gardening-----the more plants I bought, the more plant list ended up
on the back of receipts, on envelopes....literally EVERYWHERE.
Well last year during our 17 hour drive to Florida (one way) I took all my
list and plant tags and filed them in one of those A-Z accordian files--then
made a new list in alphabetical order detailing full botanical name, where I
purchased it, when, size of pot and price. The when I got home I was able to
make my own little data base off of Microsoft Word----I haven't worked now
in 5 years and the softwares sure have changed in a that short time....but I
found that it was fairly easy and now I can look up anything with any part of
the description or part of the name. Even if it is just "yellow flower".
I've included how the plant was effected during our winters, blooming time,
how I cared for the plant in the past year, etc.....you can actually put as
many catagories as you want. I also left a space to attach a photo----so if
I find a particular plant pictured in a magazine or catalog I can cut it out
and paste it to my hardcopy.
This is definetely a winter project.....as a matter of fact, mentioning this
reminds me that it is time to do an update.
Good luck and happy gardening

Anyway---this is just one way I keep track of my plants and notes.
