Hi, Denise,
The plant you are describing sounds like oenothera speciosa, or pink
primrose. It loves hot, dry shade, blooms for a long time, and can tend
to get invasive. Its masses of pink blooms make it a traffic stopper in
my garden. Great for a curb strip.
