Butternut trouble?

I just found out that the butternut tree I bought last week is juglans
cinerea which makes it closely related to black walnut (juglans nigra). Does
anyone know if the butternut tree prevents plants from growing near it the
same way that the walnut does? I had planned to plant it in an area of my
garden that I am developing with shade perennials. Would that be a mistake?
