My husband went bow hunting one year with my brother (October).....he is so
supportive of my gardening obsession that he can home with a fern that he
found in a ditch.  He is so good, he even brought the gunky soil it was
growing in....I put this in a pot and left it in my greenhouse for winter.
Of course all of the fronds died and the fern showed no sign of life but I
didn't give up.  I kept that thing for nearly 8 months until it showed showed
signs of life (July of the following year)...since then I have divided this
fern and shared it with many.

Just a little story to encourage you along------ferns have lived through
volcanos and the ice age.....they will certainly live through your transplant.
