There are a number of pests it could be - there is a night-flying moth that
is supposed to feed on hostas, but we don't have them around here, so I
have never seen the damage. The only pest I have seen on them so far this
year is the grasshopper (?! never saw that before!), which did leave holes
throughout the leaf, rather than just at the edges. Last summer I had
problems with whitefly, which dots the leaves with little holes. Ridding
the immediate area of a wild host plant and moving plants apart to permit
air circulation did in the whitefly with no pesticides needed.
