Re: [SG] Pulmonarias

Not Bill, here, Kay, but I have 'Mrs. Moon' all over the place, too - makes
a good groundcover. Where she gets on my nerves along about July because
of ratty foliage or dead flower stalks, I cut the plants back to the ground
- well, actually to just above the crown - and they re-leaf in a week or
so. never as full as originally, but the foliage generally stays nice for
the rest of the season. I don't generally do this immediately after they
get done flowering, which would be about May for me, so I don't know how
they would react if done earlier than end of June....worth trying on a
plant you're not too much in love with, just to see what it does.

Have noticed that they will commence a new leafing out around July whether
cut back or not and think they are among the early bloomers who have a sort
of semi-dormant phase after they bloom and then put on a new growth spurt -
Aquilegia are another that do this and whom I regularly whack back to the
crown after they go to seed because of ratty foliage, etc. Brunnera will
also leaf out again if cut back hard after bloom, but you won't get quite
as huge leaves for the rest of the season.
