Re: Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'
I have three varieties of hakonechloa, yellow and white striped and all
green---'macra.' I actually prefer the green variety over the striped kinds.
It is just pure shape and line, and goes well with many plants where you
don't want to introduce a yellow element. My plant has stem lengths of about
2', but it gracefully leans to one side so doesn't appear to be especially
tall. I have it next to hosta 'Sea Octopus' and have used it with h.
aureonebulosa where it looks very elegant. For us obsessive types, having
all three varieties gives me a COMPLETE collection of hakonechloa----such
satisfaction!!
My clump is about 3"x6" at its base and was planted about four years ago
from a 4" pot. The planting appears to the eye to be about a foot wide. Easy
to control, slow to increase. Likes the same conditions as hosta---some
shade, some moisture. I wouldn't be without it!
