Hi, Nancy:
Most nursery pot grown rhodies are in a peat, sand, and bark chip mixture.
After removing the plant from the pot, the root system should be shaken free
of most of the mixture (I place it into the shallow hole). The rhodie should
be placed into its home about 2" about the top of the hole. Back fill with
soil (amended or not); water well; place a light mulch of pine needles,
shredded pine bark, or something similar. Water again.
