Re: Callas and Agapanthus

Thanks so much Louise for your Calla input, wish me luck..

Can we hope that the new hybrid Agapanthus (Storm Cloud)touted as truly adapted
to zone 6 will be a performer??
I am going to give it a try,and hope to verify that the description was no
exaggeration..
Marge is right I am from Cal.and grew Agapanthus in the north of the state as
effortlessly as Daylilies..(seldom feed 'em either)..
However the Bay Area's climate is so similar to their native S.Africa that they
surely felt at home.;-)With no serious frost the strap leaves were
evergreen, always there to feed the roots, flowers which bloomed long, often.

I did have one here for several years(zone 5/6)never put on much size, but I did
not feed it often either :-( however do recall it was described as a 'smaller'
var..
It did bloom at about 3yr.(I wasnt impressed,so small was it)however it did
survive and bloom until one early spring forgetting where it was, destroyed it
with my shovel..

Thanks again to all for sharing the news that in the plant world there are
always exceptions to the (zone)'rules' just as with we humans..

Love this list and its members who pack more knowledge than volumns of gardening
books..
