Re: Aeolian harps in the garden? Mood gardens?

When you say the harp could add mood to the garden, do you mean
putting it in a window near a garden so it could be heard outside? If
I read the site correctly, it's designed to be placed in an inside
window and the window closed on it. I don't know why it wouldn't work
if you just carried it outside when you wanted to in the garden
though.....

It's a shame it's so pricey! It's so different and beautiful though.
Thanks for sending this. I know my husband will love the idea and he
makes dulcimers and other easy instruments. He has some spare time,
maybe I should try to give him a new passion..... <VBG>

It sure IS a shame they are so pricey! I hope your husband WILL make one for you! If we ever do the MNgarden tours, then we can come over and hear it!

About where to put one.....it does sound like they are meant to go in a window, and that it needs to nearly fill the window in order to get the most wind through it. I'm not sure how one would work outside, but maybe if it's placed in a windy place, in direction that the wind usually blows? Or built in some other shape? I recently read a novel set in England in the 1800's (I think). The setting was around an old castle that had a huge Aeolian harp built into one of the chimneys, some how...where the wind blew down thru it making an eery or haunting, moaning type sound, especially on stormy nights. That's what gave me the idea of creating some kind of "mood" in a special part of the garden...though I'm not sure what that would be yet....maybe a secluded, wooded spot (not much wind there, though), or on edge overlooking a cliff (but no cliffs in my yard), or overlooking a lake or pond? I don't know.

Anybody have some ideas for creating unusual moods in our gardens?
