I do not know that primula are any more attractive to slugs than Hosta or any
other perennial... especially when first emerging. I do not have all that much
trouble here with slugs and mulch everything each fall. have not used slug bait to
amount to anything except in the seedling beds and pots. We do keep a health bird
population here, along with all the other critters and thing tend to stay in
balance. I do get some damage, but nothing truly bad in appearance.
To much moisture for too long will give you mildew on the Green and Gold. It
like moisture, but wants the well-drained and easing off a bit during summer. Mine
have bloomed from the first year they arrived as tiny plugs. They get plenty of
light, but no full sun.... they definitely are in shade, but not what I would call
heavy shade. Too much nitrogen in the soil could produce al vegetative growth and
lessen bloom.....
