Hmmm. I haven't fertilized the Green and Gold, but perhaps some Bloom potion
would help? I haven't seen mildew, Gene, but I did see many with reddening
leaves. Actually, there was some black spots on leaves as well (but not
mushy). Maybe there's some fungus? There's a narrow patch of these that
goes right next to the path and is not as dense as the other bunch and
definitely in drier circumstances, but they had the same symptoms. I got
these plants for this garden because I had had a couple before that seemed
to bloom for months. Also, I know I didn't overwater them last year (it was
very dry here for at least the latter half of the summer, after a drenching
Spring).

Hello Diann,
I do not know that primula are any more attractive to slugs than Hosta
or any
other perennial... especially when first emerging. I do not have all that
much
trouble here with slugs and mulch everything each fall. have not used slug
bait to
amount to anything except in the seedling beds and pots. We do keep a health
bird
population here, along with all the other critters and thing tend to stay in
balance. I do get some damage, but nothing truly bad in appearance.
To much moisture for too long will give you mildew on the Green and
Gold. It
like moisture, but wants the well-drained and easing off a bit during
summer. Mine
have bloomed from the first year they arrived as tiny plugs. They get plenty
of
light, but no full sun.... they definitely are in shade, but not what I
would call
heavy shade. Too much nitrogen in the soil could produce al vegetative
growth and
lessen bloom.....
