I find this an interesting topic
Rooting with willows -
Anybody else do this?
What kind of willow - does it matter?
I have rooted several things just sticking them in wet ground near
the brook, but for about 20 cuttings, this did not work for buddleia.
I do have some giant weeping willow trees that are my neighbors that
hang over some of my gardens in the back..... a well known scientist,
rosarian, turned daylily hybridizer, came into my yard a couple of
years ago and noted that all my daylily seedlings in that area should
be doing great because of the chemical that is transmitted into the
ground from the leaves of these trees would help stimulate growth.
Interesting! I had always thought of just pussy willows which are
know to root in watered jars in the house when forcing them, helping
to root other things, but now know of the leaves of the weeping tree
also.
any comments?
It is well known, also, that the victorians used willows to help
root rose cuttings. Again, which willows?
