Re: [SHADEGARDENS] Buddleia

   Bobbi -
In response to your problems with Buddleia; last summer at a walking rally
I met a lady from Indiana who grows herbs and plants for a large farmers'
market in her area. She said she had trouble overwintering buddleia too, and
just started them from seed every year. The plants got full size, and it was
much easier for her than trying to overwinter the plants. She said they were
easy to grow, and she grew large quantities of them for market. I don't
recall the specifics, but she probably started them indoors. I was
particularly interested, because we are zone 4/5 here in upstate NY (though
this crazy winter, we were closer to 6!) and buddleias are marginal at best.
I'm hoping the one I planted last year made it. If not, I will order some
seeds next year and try again. Hope this helps!
