<< Susan - can you explain limbing up your Buddleia - I twisted together
the stems on mine last year to try and acheive a more tree like

stay green through this winter, but I cut it back this weekend because I
read that was what I was supposed to do - was this a mistake since it
 had not really died down?
LAst summer was my first experience with this plant and I was not very
impressed, but maybe that was because it was adn immature plant. I also
read that they should not be fertilized as that would promote leaf
growth and not flowers - what has been your experience? Tamara

Tamara, I think you are trying to be too careful with your buddleia. I planted
one 2 years ago and it is doing very well and doing what it is supposed to do,
namely attracting the butterflies.

When the flowers are dead I cut them back to the next shoots. Also if it
begins to look untidy (which they do) I just cut off the offending branch. All
this during the flowering season. In the autumn I am really hard on it and cut
back all and everything until it looks neat and tidy for the next season.
