I meant to mention that anyone who has a concrete block or stone patio or
walk might consider casting a few Viola tricolor seeds around.  They come
up in the cracks between stones; not thickly, just a few here and there,
and their roots and stems are not sturdy enough to force stones apart or
break mortar.  They will reseed without increasing their population, so
they don't become 'weedy'.  Myosotes sylvatica has the same habit when
planted in patio cracks, though it may spread to adjacent garden areas
where it may not be wanted; it's easy to eradicate, though.
