I don't know much about azaleas, and you sound like you do, so don't take
offense if this is something you already know. I was given the advice once
to pinch off the flowers when they wilt on a particular plant that flowered
very little or not at all. After three years of disappointment, I pinched,
and in the fourth year had beautiful blooms. While deadheading, I saw that
wilted blossoms had hung on, even though shriveled, that were from at least
one season previous. I have not had need to do this to any except the
variety 'Rosebud', but have only three varieties all told anyway.
