Re: [SHADEGARDENS] perennial pea birth control

Hello Esther,
I, too, appreciate the wild look in my garden. If you are concerned
about sweet peas taking over the garden why not consider the dwarf
varieties that grow in clearings or at the edge of the woods? I have not
had the best of luck germinating the seeds, but do have a few and plant to
put some in my garden this spring. The two I am planting are Lathrus niger
and L. vernus Albiflorus. Both are under two feet and bushy in habit. There
are other varieties to choose from. I understand the English are lovers of
Sweet Peas.
I do have an old fashioned sweet pea on the fence I planted over 20
years ago when I moved here. Still there and still on the fence. Has not
taken over the field on one side or my yard on the other.
