Re: [SHADEGARDENS] Intro

Hello Sherryl,
My apologies, I should have used the botanical along with the common
names to begin with.
Goat's Beard is Aruncus. The native species can be from 6 to 8 feet tall
resembling a giant astillibie with cream white blossoms in plumes. There
are quite a few other species and selections ranging in size from a bit
over 6 inches to the 6 feet or more. Good foliage plant as well.
Bugbanes are also known as Fairy Candles or Black Snake Root. Botanical
is Cimicifuga. We have two native species in this section of the eastern
US. There are quite a few more from Asia. Great for mid to late summer
blooms. Excellent variety of foliage and heights. Some new selections have
a dark, almost black-purple foliage to go with the normally cream to white
blooms.
Turtlehead is Chelone. There are two species, one blooms in pink, the
other in white. Both are moisture lovers, but do not have to have it all
year to thrive. Height is about two feet when in bloom.
