Re: [SHADEGARDENS] The Garden Book Club

Musings--

I had a relationship with the Garden Book Club for many years. I ordered
sporadically, always paid up front, and was not hit with dreadful shipping
charges (and they are HIGH!). You don't pay the list price for the books
you order, either. In most cases they are a few dollars cheaper.

As my purchases became more sporadic, they got less and less interested
and eventually stopped sending me the monthly leaflets describing the
selections. (There is also some kind of a deal where you get a free book
after purchasing so many, and it was kind of complicated--with "points"
earned for books of various prices. That was kind of a pain, unless they
changed it.) After several years, I recently got a solicitation from them
begging me to rejoin. Hey--they dropped ME! I didn't quit! But I sort of
miss getting those fliers every month. Maybe I will "rejoin."

While I was an active member, I obtained a lot of books that I'm glad I
have. I especially miss the Timber Press selections they offered--because
again, I didn't have to pay shipping if I ordered prepaid from the GBC.
They offer not just new stuff, but classic garden books that every
gardener's bookshelf should contain. So unless they have changed
drastically, I highly recommend them. If anyone has a current GBC flier,
it might be nice for that person to "share" with us some of the books they
are featuring right now.
