Subject Lines:
"Re:" in email indicates that the message is in response to another -- if
someone sends you email and you start a reply to them, your email program
(if it conforms to standards) will take their subject lines and put Re: in
front of it. Let's leave the Re: alone, it is handy for spotting new
threads vs. ongoing threads and doesn't consume enough space to make a
difference.
Shady Vines:
David Atkins suggested I consider "moon vine" for my shady front door. Are
you referring to Impomoea alba (aka Calonyction aculeatum)? I thought they
want full sun? Do they do well in full-shade? This site is pretty shady
-- it does not see direct sunlight once the trees leaf out.
Dividing Hostas:
My girlfriend's mother has offered me some divisions of her hostas, but
I'll have to dig them. They're definitely in need of dividing, only I'm
not sure how to go about it. Would someone be so kind as to enlighten me
on this? Thanks!
Slimy Marketing: (prepare for a rant)
Okay, I'm no expert on mail-order nursery catalogs, so I may be way off
base here. However it seems to me that if a place is any good, they don't
need a bunch of gimmicks. Yesterday I got what appeared to be one of those
"YOU HAVE ALREADY WON!" sweepstakes packets. I almost threw it out
unopened (if I truly had won something of value, they wouldn't be notifying
me using bulk-rate postage!). I happened to glance at the return address
though and noticed it was from the Michigan Bulb Co. so I opened it to find
their catalog buried amongst a pile of sweepstakes B.S.
This just confirmed my gut feeling about them. If they're any good, I'd
think they would have enough repeat business that they wouldn't have to
work so hard to lure in new customers. Anyone have any additional comments
or thoughts on this?
