Clyde, I have a H.anomonela petiolaris on a split rail fence just under the spreading branches of a very tall white pine40-50 ft) that has been limbed up to about 15-20 ft.. Almost 5 years and nary a flower. Two years ago I had the tree man in and removed every other tier of branches from the pine (really wanted to bonzi it) and finally it (H.petiolaris)flowered beautifully. I have heard that they are slow to establish but I also feel that the amount of light is as critical so be warned that this was not very deep or dark shade because of the high limbing of the pine tree. Janet zone 6 20-25 miles w of NYC.
