Re: [SG] Rockwool

Sheila, Dan,

What is rockwool? What does it do? Sounds like some kind of insulating
wallboard. Is this something only hydroponics experts know about? Does it
help hold the plant in place in the water, or has it some other purpose?
Where does one obtain it? I ask because I think I need to go hydroponic
real quick: although half of my hostas aren't even poking up shoots yet,
my H. 'Green Eyes' is up and unfurled! The only way to save it from the
next hard freeze, I think, is to dig it up and plant it inside for a month
or two. Can I just put it in water in a tiny little container, or do I
need some of this rockwool stuff? Or should I be traditional and use soil?

Nancy, thanks for the info. It was certainly new to me. I have never tried
rooting hostas in water, and never heard of it being done.
