Hi, Bobbi. The quickest way to go hydroponic is to buy an 'Earthbox',
'Baby Boomer', or some other kit. I think they both advertise in
'Horticulture' magazine. The rockwool has a purpose other than
hydroponics, but I can't think of what it is. Is it used in aquarium
filters??? With the kits, you get started off with an appropriate nutrient
formula, full instructions, etc. The problem I had in the past growing
hostas in plain water is that in a very short time they began to dry up or
else to convert to slime, sometimes before adequate root development had
taken place. Alot of garden centers are selling the one-box hydroponic
kits. There are some informative magazines on hydroponics and the
libraries have books that tell you how to make your own system, but that
always looked too complicated to me.
