Is that tobacco mosaic virus? What are the symptoms in an infected hosta?
I have heard that a smoker can spread TMV to susceptible plants if they
don't wash their hands before handling plants - I don't know if that's
true, or just another way of haranging smokers. But I was a smoker when I
planted many of my hostas, and want to know if I could have spread TMV to
them.

Hi Shelia!
I have no idea what tobacco dust is. I'll check back and see if I can find
out.
As to second question---I have heard the same thing---but I doubt it. There is
much more research that needs to be done on the various viruses that infect
hostas. I was a smoker too when I planted many hostas and I do not see any
evidence of the virus.
Maybe it is just a lot of smoke?
The symptom is a reddish mosaic pattern on gold hostas.
