Pottsy, since I allow nearly 4 square feet per daylily, it looks like you
have room there for almost 2 whole plants! My current favorite perennial
to use with daylilies is the veronica. They are easy to grow and bear
spikes of blooms. Both 'Red Fox' and 'Goodness Grows' varieties are a nice
height at 1 foot. 'Red Fox' is a hot pink and blooms June, July, and
August here. 'Goodness Grows' is deep bluish purple and blooms June-frost.
In such small spaces, there are a lot of perennials that won't work. I
think if one of the colors of veronica did not suit to accompany the colors
of the daylilies, the other one will.
