Re: [SG] intro & deep shade question; zone 5a

Well, I've got H. sieboldiana and a cultivar of same, whose name I don't
know, growing at the base of a huge oak surrounded by 4 Cornus florida -
don't get a speck of sun and the shade is *very * dense once the trees
have leafed out. Doing fine...both about 30" in diameter or so....been
there about 7 years.

Have a few more in similar conditions. But, of course, I am 2 zones warmer
than you are and that can make quite a difference on shade/sun requirements
and tolerance for a whole range of plants. In my part of the world, hosta
burn up by August in more than morning or dappled sun.
