Re: [SG] Rhododendrons

Nancy--

Sorry I can't advise you on rhododendrons for shade, but your zone 6
location is perfect for Hydrangea arborescens. Buy the CVs 'Annabelle' or
'Grandiflora' and you'll have beautiful white blossoms in summer that stay
on the shrub and turn pale green in fall, then beige over winter. Takes
DEEP shade and still blooms. 'Grandiflora' may be more difficult to find
but 'Annabelle' should be readily available. I have 'Grandiflora' and it's
great! The Oakleaf Hydrangea (H. quercifolia) is also good in deepish
shade, but it gets larger.
