Cats

Be careful not to believe everything you see on TV - even Discovery!
Television is notorious for deliberately creating controversy to stir up
interest, and often the pet peeves and beliefs (not facts) of the writers
are what you see. Several studies have shown that the diet of feral cats
consists mostly of insects, followed by small rodents and reptiles.
Domestic cats will try to catch what passes them by, if they feel like it.
Cats are not adapted to capture birds or fish as efficiently, though some
do. I have had over 40 cats, and so far have had only three that caught
birds. One other sometimes caught birds, but the victims were obviously
old or sick. There are some really nasty things, like Bubonic Plague and
Hanta virus, that are controlled by cats keeping the rodent population in
check.

The worst a cat has done in my garden was to use a hosta as a bed on a hot
day. The plant was completely flattened. I have found that Bobbi's
baby-powder rabbit repellent also works to repel cats.
