If the leaves are later damaged by frost, you can cut them to the ground
and the plant will sprout anew. Late spring frosts should not kill a
hosta. I have had frost damage on in-ground and potted plants, and on
Clyde's advice, cut them level with the soil, and they were beautiful in
another 6 weeks.
If you hear of low temperatures coming, swaddle the plant overnight to
protect it.
