My experience with Tibouchina...
I saw it last year for the first time at my wholesaler. Bought two that
were about 4 ft espaliers which I put in my whiskey barrels on either side
of the south facing steps. My entrance to the house and from the house to
the garden (I never use the front door!) So I saw them every time I left and
came back inside. <G>
Now, I hate my old whiskey barrels, but that is another subject...money to
replace etc...so instead I hide them with beautiful plants.
Well, they were breathtaking! Purple not blue blooms all summer. The base
let me know that it was treelike/woody so they required a lot of water.
FULL SUN bouncing off white walls. They did fantastic and stayed there
until late Oct here in Mass. So I think that they withstood a lot of cold,
but not open cold, maybe, as they were next to the house.
I tried to bring them inside for the winter. One made it, the other kicked
the bucket. My fault as I had no place for them in my tiny house, and they
did not get attention in the guest room. Lack of sun and lack of water and
food.
I would buy them again in a minute!
