Hi, Gerry. Another help is to remove all infected leaves and stems in the
autumn and avoid mulching over winter - the powdery mildew doesn't survive
as well on bare ground. I don't remember why I came to that conclusion; I
deducted it from something I read about the mildew. But it does help to
substantially reduce the amount of mildew from one year to the next. For
the plants that need a winter mulch to survive, you can water with a
disinfectant formula (try Jerry Baker's website) and use a 'clean' mulch
such as cocoa hulls or pine boughs.
