Dry weather and being under trees will do it every time. They are
losing the water battle to the tree roots. The ones I have that are
subject to mildew are in exactly these kinds of conditions. The ones
that either get a lot of supplemental water or don't have a lot of
tree roots to battle with for it don't get mildew...same old 'Mrs.
Moon'...
I have also read that cool weather with dry soil will bring it on or
cool weather with night moisture....lot's of combinations. Think the
key is dry soil. They will tolerate it and grow, but they will also
get mildew.
