I don't think the male holly needs any more than the female holly. In
fact, probably the other way around. My friend the Holly Man Hal
Elmore, Holly Haven in Knoxville says to tell your boss you need March
1st off. Then you go fertilize all your hollies with 6-12-12 and watch
them grow. Unfortunately I have voles and I watch them grow. They love
the evergreen hollies and leave the deciduous ones alone. I am
specializing but not on purpose. I have several of the Brunners . Just
love the large leaves and the berries would be okay if the plants ever
get larger enough to bear a lot.
