Dave
Lets's go through the investigation process. First where do you live? Next
where did you purchase these plants? Were thay in bloom when you bought
them? unfortunatly here in the north many so called "Garden Centers" ,
especially the big "discounters" are bringing in plants from the south.
These are varieties that bloom well in the Carolinas and Georga, but , while
they live here, they lose their flower buds each winter and never or seldom
bloom. Do you know the variety names of them? ( you mention a name
"Multoides" Is that a variety. I am not sure if that is right) Are they
both the same kind? Next you need to look at the fall condtions in the area
where they grow. Frequently if the spot is a bit to wet especially in the
fall, bud set won't take place. Now about nutrent balance. Do you have
anyone spraying your lawn with a high nitrogen liquid fertlizer. Have you
added any high nitrogen "food" yourself.
