Deb, presumably you are planning on improving your soil?  If so,
this is likely the most expensive and is not especially
effective.  First of all the stuff anyone sells as "top soil"
can be anything at all and it is rare that they've had it
tested.  Peat moss .... is sterile and actually adds little re:
soil improvement.

In my county, mulch is available free to residents if you want
to go shovel it, load it into your vehicle,etc.  Or you can pay
for a large truck to come and dump 5 cubic yards on your
property.  Many, many municipalities are doing this with their
leaf & tree debris.  Look in the Blue Pages of your phone book
and see if there is a Shade Tree Commission, Dept of Parks,
something along those lines.  That's how I found out about the
county mulch.  It is *never* advertised.

as well as many times.  :)

I bought this place with lousy turf over hardpack clay bound
with rock; the top soil, such as it was was about 4" deep.  I've
amended ... I guess it's around 2200 square feet now - mostly
double dug using wood chips obtained from local landscaping
companies, chipped christmas trees from the town, chopped leaves
gathered from neighbors (now people bring me their leaves from
all over the town - they even make sure they have all the toys
cleaned out! :), and county mulch.  Cost:  nominal.  Results
after 3 years:  extremely friable, rich clay loam.
