I would love it to be evergreen (Zone 6) but that isn't
essential. I guess. I do need it to have uncut, glossy,
preferably dark green leaves - or at least bold ones. It is
surrounded by Aruncus, Cimcifuga, various ferns, variegated
Polygonum and other stuff. That's important. I need that
gloss and broader, less delicate leaf for contrast. Something
like an Asarum. Whatever it is should be between around 18-24"
in height (spread is negotiable); this condition is a bit more
flexible. Actually, depending on the plant's density, could go
to 3'. >>
Hi Jaime:
If you hadn't specified "uncut", I would immediately recommend Acanthus
spinosum. I swear that when people see my garden that one is always one they
HAVE to have!!
Leaves are very dark green and glossy. The "flowers" (actually bracts) are
marvelous.
For contrast, try one of the great luzulas. I'll send you privately an image,
if you want me to. It is "evergreen" of sorts.
In z6, if protected, try the Acanthus hungaricus. Its leaves are drop-dead
beautiful.
Here is one that would be sensational==Chasmathium latifolium--but I cannot
rec it if your client is lazy.
Another to try is a delmara. It has the gloss, a beautiful flower, etc.The
leaves are large and showy.
