Clyde,
According to the book on ferns this one is slow to establish. Once settled
in it is supposed to be an assertive grower and spreads into a broad dense
colony.
Before moving it... is it mulched. Was compost or leaf mold dug in when
you planted the fern. Since the book indicates this one is slow to
establish I would hesitate to move it around. It is getting ready to turn
hot and dry in this region before long. I would not move it until fall
unless you are great with remembering your watering chores faithfully.
